M!Mage could have been in love with Jowan (whether Jowan himself knew or not is up to anon), angry at him, worried about him, etc.

“Take them off!” Draco looked desperate. And freckled. Ron smirked. The blond had not shown up for classes or meals – ashamed, no doubt.

Ron shrugged. “Okay. Put down that wand.” He reached out and took Draco’s hand. The Slytherin’s wary look turned to astonishment, and then to disbelief as Ron bent down and kissed his hand.

“What are you doing?!” he squeaked, almost poking Ron in his eyes with his wand.

Ron grinned, and pointed at the hand. “One less,” he said, and bent to kiss another freckle. It vanished. “See?”

“You mean…”

“I have to kiss them all.”

Draco stared down in disbelief. Freckles. On his spotless, alabaster skin. He lifted his eyes incredulously, locking them on the redhead doubled up in laughter.

Something snapped inside Draco, and he launched himself physically at the taller boy, screeching furiously, hands clawed.

“How dare you sully this perfect skin with these common, ugly blemishes?!”

“Hey!”

They struggled, but Ron was even stronger than surprise and fury. He had Draco pinned to the wall in seconds. They glared at each other, Draco in hate, but Ron’s glare faded to a grin fast.

“You look cute with freckles,” he breathed.

Draco shifted on the bed, making it creak. The satin sheets slid smoothly across Ron’s skin, even over the scars that he’d collected so far in his career.

Gentle fingertips ran down along his arm, tracing patterns on his skin. Ron relaxed until he realized where and what the fingers were tracing. “Cut it out, Malfoy!” he snapped, jerking backwards. The blond, sitting upright, lifted an eyebrow.

“Come on, Weasley,” he drawled. “Surely you’ve thought about it…been tempted…”

“Like hell, Malfoy,” Ron almost snarled, his right hand protectively over his left forearm. “I’d rather die than get the Dark Mark.”

Draco checked they were alone. Approached, slowly, nervously, eyes darting around worriedly, moistening his lips, apprehension in his eyes. Ron stayed absolutely still, inviting a wild animal in.

Draco was close now, close enough to touch, but it was up to him to make the first move. Hesitant, almost trembling fingers reached up to touch Ron’s face. Ron wanted to close his eyes and bask in the soft caress, but couldn’t take his eyes off Draco’s. The moment stretched on.

Ron reached slowly out.

“Ron!” Like a deer bolting, Draco vanished instantly. Again.

Ron swore. Harry blinked. “What’d I do?”

Ron didn’t drink. Aurors generally didn’t – why give your enemies the opportunity to find you with your guard down?
But he pretended to, regular as clockwork, every other day.

Because when he did, Draco Malfoy would approach him. He’d let Ron kiss him, touch him, make love to him, because he wouldn’t remember it later. Draco would submit, and his eyes wouldn’t be hard orbs of unreadable silver, but would mellow into emotional stormy grey seas. He would run his hands through Ron’s red hair, whispering soft words – not of love, but sweet nonetheless.

So Ron pretended to be drunk.
